Let's Answer Your Questions

What is the structure of the class?

The in person group class consists of three classes, each roughly two hours each. These classes will leave you fully prepared for labor and delivery (see outline of class below). In addition to the labor and delivery class, we will be hosting an optional Zoom class every 6 weeks with experts in the fields of pediatrics, lactation consulting, Ob/Gyn, nutrition, and more. These Zooms will be saved in a library that you gain access to when you sign up for the class.

Who teaches the class?

Laura Rubin, a pelvic floor PT, teaches the majority of the class. However, topics such as interventions offered, and inductions are co-taught with a labor & delivery nurse Perrie Lurie, who works in L&D at a LA hospital. Perrie Lurie also has also consulted on the entirety of the coursework.

Should I prepare for labor and delivery if I cannot control my birth anyway?

YES YES YES. Knowledge is power! Research supports that preparing for labor leads to decreased mental distress postpartum, more satisfaction with labor and delivery experience, increased self control and awareness during labor, decrease in false labor admissions and anxiety, increased partner involvement in labor, and decreased fear relating to labor & delivery.

I can also tell you clinically that when people prepare for labor, they have peace of mind knowing that they had the birth they needed and they did what they could to have the birth they wanted, as they were able to communicate their needs and preferences throughout the process. Additionally, this class gives participants pain management tools so they can are much more equipped for the discomfort of contractions and birth.

Who should take this class?

Those who will be birthing in the hospital but want to go into labor with skills that include pain management, breathing and pushing techniques, and also how to navigate interventions offered in the hospital.. It will give you practical tips for labor and self management of labor while also being evidence based and preparing you for wha

People who will be experiencing their first delivery are ideal for this group class (if it is not your first delivery, a 1:1 session is more appropriate).

Support people & partners are highly encouraged to attend with pregnant person.

Can I take this class if I do not want an epidural?

YES- we spend a lot of time on pain management techniques, such as mindset, movement, manual techniques, distraction techniques and more! This will give you the skills you need to manage your discomfort if you do not want an epidural.

Why take this class over any other class?

Great question. This class has balanced practical and evidence based tips for labor, while also preparing you for the hospital experience. People should take whatever class they want, but I’m pretty biased toward this one 😉
